What is Counselling?
I work from a humanistic approach that focuses upon the ways in which individuals perceive themselves and supporting them in their journey towards leading a full and content life. Counselling is a form of talking therapy that allows clients the opportunity to explore themselves in depth in a confidential, non-judgemental space. It can aid clients in understanding their emotions and behaviours to enable them to reach their full potential personal growth.
My role in this process is to support my client’s growth and helping them to understand themselves in order to create a positive change. It is not my role to tell my clients what to do or advise them how to change. In essence, my role is not to direct clients, but rather to facilitate growth by providing an environment and relationship where growth occurs in its own way.
Sessions will be client led, we will agree on what the client would like to focus upon each session and sessions may vary by nature. This ensures that you as the client are able to direct the sessions in the best way to benefit you, it your time and your journey. We will consistently review as we go through sessions and check where you are at all all times in the process.
How will I know if I am with the right counsellor?
Finding the right counsellor is essential to the counselling process. Being able to feel secure, comfortable and supported in the counselling environment will enable clients to fully immerse themselves into their journey. This is why I always offer an initial session before entering into a contract to ensure that you as a client feel comfortable that I am the right counsellor for you. This allows you to ask any questions or express any worries or fears you may have about counselling. This also allows me to understand the reason for entering into counselling and find out more about you.
